"The Star and the Crescent was an idea I had even before I pitched the idea for Raging Tiger: The Second Korean War to Pat Proctor and ProSIM Company! I really wanted to address this period and location in history with the ATF engine, because the Middle East has been a proving ground for many of the weapons platforms currently in use around the world, and more specifically, armored systems! I threw the idea at Pat while we were at Origins 2004, and it stuck!

Even before Raging Tiger was released, I had begun initial research into the region and its conflicts over the last 50-odd years. I used many resources as inspiration for the scenarios, orders of battle, and unit designations. There is, to this day, some disagreement over exactly which units and exactly what type of equipment was used by whom during the various battles of the Yom Kippur war. I tried to get at least two corroborating sources before putting units into the game, but, because much of the equipment on BOTH sides was captured and altered equipment from each side, I took pains to ensure that different equipment was represented in the scenarios for variety and balance in each scenario.

I also wanted to take things in a different direction with briefings and OPORDS that attempt to convey the urgency and lack of real intelligence that permeated combat in the Middle East in the 70's. I tried to create scenarios that were fairly narrow in their scope to keep them fun, challenging, and maybe spur an interest in the era, and more broadly, military history in general. I also decided to do the maps a bit differently from Raging Tiger as well, using the increased resolution on the maps to its fullest! These maps were challenging and an absolute joy for me to create, and I personally think these maps are the best artwork I've ever done for any game! I also went with a simplified icon type for the picture representations for each unit. Again, I think these are vastly improved over my freshman effort. I hope you enjoy playing The Star and the Crescent as much as I did creating it!"
